Coronavirus: All training and patrols are currently suspended.

On Sundays from May to September we provide a voluntary lifeguard service on the beach at Exmouth.  Working alongside the paid RNLI lifeguard service that many of our members find summer jobs with. We ensure that the beautiful 2 mile stretch of beach at Exmouth remains safe for all of our beach and water users. 

All of our lifeguards undertake Surf Life Saving GB's Lifeguard course and exam as well as regular training, annual updates and revalidation.

Lifeguards can qualify at 16 years old. To be a Surf Lifeguard there are numerous fitness requirements:

400m pool swim in 7 minutes 30 seconds or under

200m soft sand run in 40 secs or under

200m run 200m Swim 200m Run

As well as fitness requirements guards are assessed on aquatic first aid, rescue techniques and the beach environment.

If you don't meet these minimum requirements Surf Life Saving GB also offer Beach Lifeguard and Surf Life Saver qualifications.
